Bufala
Bubalus bubalis (aka the mozzarell-maker)

I’ve been away for a few days (did you notice that? Nah…), trying to clear up my mind a bit.

Unfortunately it didn’t work completely — you see, it was Festa della Repubblica yesterday, what with the usual celebrations and military parade etc., everybody cheering and applauding and oh, look, i bersaglieri! I corazzieri! Le frecce tricolori!

But then they boast they cut on expenses for the parade saving 1 million euros (which will be allegedly used to rebuild homes in Abruzzo. Or so they say. We’ll see.) and I think: WTF?!?

With all the due respect to bersaglieri and corazzieri and frecce tricolori and all the police and military people doing their job (as it’s not them I’m questioning), I’m wondering if the government really know what “credit crunch” means.

I’m wondering if we should have avoided such a parade, celebrating in a much, much sober way — they say they saved 1 million euros, but they didn’t say how much the whole baraccone did actually cost.

Then I see such faces on the telly, and everything becomes clear: no, they don’t know what la crisi actually is, they actually like the circus, being the main attraction themselves.

We’re a hoax. We’re doomed.

[*] in Italy, the equivalent to “hoax” is “bufala“.
